Some technical details for those interested:
The entire FediMeteo setup runs on a FreeBSD VM costing around 4 euros per month. It supports almost all major EU countries (plus the UK), with just a few left to complete. Currently, there are 25 separate jails, each running its own instance of snac, totaling 25 instances. The VM load typically stays around 10%, which increases to 30% when updates are published for countries with larger numbers of cities (currently Germany and Italy). The only time the load spikes is when new countries are announced; during that time, all remote instances connect to all cities to download their details.
As for RAM usage, excluding the ZFS cache, it's currently a total of 213 MB. Yes, MB.

Using #snac makes making bots a breeze. It’s a great tool!

I hate that it uses emoji for ui (what is a lock? What is a hand shake?), but outside of that it makes me appreciate fediverse more.

I can confirm that migrating from #Akkoma to #snac worked flawlessly.
I tried it last evening and it was failing but I think it was just a caching issue.

I've just enjoyed this fascinating conversation between @firesidefedi and @stefano, where the latter explains how he planted the seed of the incredibly friendly, great and extense community that is the BSD Cafe. Open source, owning you own data and the importance of interconnecting people is talked about here. Of course, Stefano also talked about https://fedimeteo.com/, his great project that makes weather information available to the whole Fediverse; this makes me, as the developer of #snac (one of the pieces of software that operates Fedimeteo), also a bit proud of being a part of.

As Stefano says, "you can't describe passion", but you can feel it from his words.

I've just noticed that all the #snac instances aren't listed on FediDB anymore (all the FediMeteo ones, the snac BSD Cafe one, etc.)

I've just published version 2.79 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:

Added a server-wide Webmention hook; this way, if somebody out there (that supports Webmention) links to a user or post in this instance, a notification is sent (this is the complementary of what was implemented in version 2.76).

Fixed regression while sending email via pipe on OpenBSD.

Fixed Markdown parsing when the URL has parenthesis.

Always show the 'pending follow confirmations' section if there are any (even if the toggle is off).

If a metadata value is an account handler, it's also tried to be validated (rel="me" links).

Another search by URL tweak (this time for Pixelfed links).

Mastodon API: fixed a bug that made some boosts disappear after being shown in apps like Tusky, added followed hashtags maintenance, other minor changes.

Renamed command-line actions create_list to list_create and delete_list to list_remove.

The default favicon URL can be changed from the server configuration.

New command-line option export_posts, to export all posts by a user in a JSON format compatible with the one generated by Mastodon.

The command-line options to send notes also allow an optional -r argument, to set the URL of a Fediverse post this note is a reply to.

My friends, I'm so excited and happy to introduce a new project: the illumos Cafe!

The positive and constructive spirit of the BSD Cafe, created and maintained by all the friends who participated from day one in building a strong and friendly community, deserves to spread to other operating systems. Because there are other OSes that deserve attention, certainly more than they're getting right now.

Operating systems based on illumos (like SmartOS, OmniOS, Tribblix, OpenIndiana, etc.) are mature, stable, secure, and perfectly usable for a wide range of tasks. ZFS is native, zones are an excellent method for containerization, and bhyve and kvm coexist beautifully - and so much more, too much to list in a single post.

So from today, the illumos Cafe will stand alongside the BSD Cafe in creating a positive, respectful, and growth-oriented (but also relaxing!) environment, starting right here in the Fediverse with a Mastodon instance and a snac one.

This response from the author of snac motivated me to continue, study, and appreciate this fantastic software for the Fediverse.
Snac is an example of true internet democracy: it runs everywhere and allows anyone to have their own autonomous, personal space in the Fediverse.

Just testing #dillo from my #snac instance and It is good but some things don't work as expected. For instance if I get a notification and then like it. The button does not change to unlike until I reload the page. Also my hacky back to the top of page links that work in other browsers do nothing in dillo. They are basically as below.

I also noticed that all the admin tabs at the top of the snac admin page are all open taking up screen real estate.
I'm not complaining merely poiting out some of my findings and there is probably good reason that I don't know about why these work they way they do.
