I have recently gotten into Game and Watch games and have found a big appreciation for them. I have mostly only played ones available through Game and Watch Gallery 3. But recently I got my hands on the newest Zelda one as well as an original Mario’s Cement Factory. I think there’s so much to like about each individual unit. What is your favorite game of all the series? Did you play them when they were first released? Which one has the best design in both gameplay as well as the physical unit itself? Curious to know other opinions.

Blaze has just launched the first firmware update of the year for the VS/VS-R, EXP/EXP-R and Alpha models, bringing several new features.

Game of the Month: Replaced by Highlight of the Month, allowing owners to explore a selection of games from Evercade’s back catalogue without needing the original cartridges.

Dip Switch Support: Now in beta for arcade releases across the range, dip switches offer adjustable difficulty, lives, and more.

Language Support: The upcoming Broken Sword Collection will receive alternative language versions.

What features do you think should be included in future updates?

Director Hideki Kamiya, known for his work on the iconic game Okami, has spoken out about the Wii version of the title. In a recent social media post, he expressed dissatisfaction with the Wii port, referring to it as not being ‘original.’ The game was originally released for PS2 in 2006, the Wii in 2008, and then later remade for many modern platforms under the name Okami HD.

Kamiya noted that the Wii version lacked significant enhancements and was handled by an external studio, Ready at Dawn, which faced challenges during development. He also highlighted that some original team members’ credits were omitted in the Wii version. Fans are encouraged to experience the HD remaster version for a closer match to his intended vision.

In his tweet, Kamiya said:

Wii版はオリジナルではないです…僕が作ったのはPS2版です…いま遊ぶなら絶景版が良いでしょう…僕個人的にはWii版は遊んで欲しくないです……

which translates to:

The Wii version isn’t the original… The PS2 version is what I created. If you’re going to play now, the HD edition would be recommended. As for me personally, I don’t want people to play the Wii version…"

In a project update mail to previous Kickstarter backers, Henrique Olifiers set the date for the third (and likely final) Kickstarter campaign for the ZX Spectrum Next project as July 19th, 2025.

The ZX Spectrum Next issue 3 will have two new cores: a complete Sinclair QL core with support for the SD card, WiFi, joysticks, expansion port, Real Time Clock, 65K colours and dual 68000/68020 CPU running at 44MHz, and a Commodore 64 core with HDMI (with sound) and VGA output, joysticks, cartridge and D64 disk images and tape loading via the audio port.

The announcement has yet to hit the official site, so stay tuned if you missed the previous KS.

Looks Like 3DO Might Be Getting An Unofficial Port Of PS1 Classic WipEout

The original 3DO promised to revolutionise the video game industry in 1993. Despite initial success, it couldn’t compete with more powerful consoles like the PlayStation and Saturn.

However, modern homebrew programmers are once again showing interest in this platform. Recently, programmer @XProger_san—known for his work on OpenLara and Tomb Raider I\III Remastered—has shared a comparison between the original PS1 classic, WipEout, and a potential 3DO version.

# Differences in 3D graphics capabilities:[XProger\_san] The #PSX is known for polygon jitter due to integer positioning of vertices relative to the screen grid. Meanwhile, the #3DO GPU supports subpixel positions, as seen in the comparison.[/XProger\_san]

While it’s currently unclear if this will be a full port, it’s an exciting opportunity for fans and retro game enthusiasts.
