Me (Diptych)

I hit the incredible mark of 2K. How? I really don't know. I'm not the most social person here. I mainly post selfmade photos, sometimes boost, am a mega-liker and occasionally smurf a comment.

But I'm still amazed at getting the same vibes here as logging on to #oldskool bulletin boards. So I really would like to thank all of you who follow me here ❤️

Bon eh bien, je pense que c’était plutôt une bonne idée de me lever une heure plus tôt et d’aller affronter les fraîches températures matinales dans les environs du lac de Grand-Lieu ce matin pour capturer le lever du soleil avec mon drone…

Photo panoramique prise légèrement en hauteur au-dessus d’une étendue d’eau calme et recouverte d’une légère couche de brume matinale, avant le lever du soleil. Au loin, une barre d’arbres se reflète à la surface de l’eau sur toute la largeur de l’image.
Plus proche, au centre, la boule ronde d’un arbuste dénudé se reflète également à la surface paisible.
On devine sur la droite de l’image les premières lueurs du soleil.

Une autre étendue d’eau calme et légèrement brumeuse. Sur la rive au loin, un alignement de peupliers rectilignes se reflète également dans l’eau, donnant l’image d’un long squelette de poisson.
Tout à droite, un peu plus loin, presque masqué par la brume, la sihouette d’une église.
Tout à gauche, les lueurs du lever du jour.

Eh oui, encore une étendue d’eau calme surmontée d’une légère brume matinale… Encore des arbres qui se reflètent dans l’eau, mais en contre-jour, avec le soleil juste sur l’horizon, en plein milieu de l’image.

… bah oui, encore une étendue d’eau calme et brumeuse (promis, c’est la dernière !) mais cette fois, on aperçoit la rive sur laquelle nous sommes, où les silhouettes d’arbres se découpent en contre jour, certains ayant eu toutes leurs branches coupées, sur une herbe verte éclairée en lumière rasante.

It is another rainy day, just right for wasting away. I will have to go out today.

There is a movie starring Harrison Ford where he is a New York police officer who, upon discovering there are corrupt police officers committing murder, hides among an Amish community in the country, probably Pennsylvania. The Amish people had a saying whenever they ventured away from home, "be careful out there among the English." I use that sometimes when leaving home, i.e., I have to venture out among the English. Truthfully, my ancestry is English; there's been some genealogy done with my family, and all roads lead to England so far.

In the countryside, there are rituals that have endured for hundreds of years, unchanged.
This elderly woman, her body bent by time and hard work, walks each day to meet her chickens - who roam freely across a vast open space.
She gathers a few branches and leaves, then returns to fetch the food she’ll give them, to complement what they’ve already foraged in nature.

The chickens, friendly and orderly, follow her all the while.
And watching them, I’m reminded of people who are no longer here - people who were part of my life for a long time, who lived those same rituals, even if hundreds of kilometers away.

Even as everything around us changes, there are places that never do.
