Your parents probably taught you from a young age not to take gifts from strangers, right?
So, why do you blindly accept now "free" services from companies online?
meta
Because of X and Meta fucking things up once again, people are talking about abandoning social media, because there are no corporate free alternatives. Right.
#Signal adoption is really going well in the #Netherlands, these last few months! Found this lying on the coffee table in a church, yesterday—instructions on how to install Signal for the parishioners. Every day I get notifications for more contacts who've joined.
Getting my friends off #Meta and on the #Fediverse is going... less well. But I try not to let perfect be the enemy of good.
I am becoming increasingly doubtful of #Telegram's background and direction. #WhatsApp is owned by #Meta and just announced that it will introduce ads. So, it looks like I'm left with #Signal and #Matrix. The former has a better UI, but it's centralized and US-based. The latter is a bit clumsy but decentralized and EU-based. Neither is perfect, but they are the closest to it for me.
In today's time the Stockholm syndrome might have ended up being called the "#Meta #X -Syndrome". 😉
"Stockholm syndrome is a proposed condition to explain why hostages occasionally develop a psychological bond with their captors." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
Here’s a new rabbit hole for you.
It seems Facebook had the idea they could use AI to simulate people on Facebook after they die. To be honest, I bet they could do a convincing job for some people, and I had also had the idea that this could happen one day.
What if they then serve these dead AIs with adverts and have them react as they would with comments and boosts.
They could charge advertisers for adverts shown to dead people!
When would this rabbit hole end?
