I'm a 28 years old BSD enthusiast and I'm also a developer/entrepreneur (in field of AI), used different BSD variants before (mostly FreeBSD and FreeBSD based ones such as GhostBSD and PC-BSD).
I'm a FLOSS advocate as well, although it's a long time I haven't participated in an open source project but I released most of my models as "open weight" models on websites such as huggingface.
What should I add to this?
introduction
Hello bsd.cafe
I am using FreeBSD on my PC as the only OS. I am also using emacs. You may call me a FOSS enthusiast.
I also write in the web - I am currently moving my sites to https://crys.site.
While not a complete luddist, I am growing more and more tired of what tech has become. Screw big tech!
Seize the means of computation!
Now that it appears my move to BSD.cafe is complete, I believe it’s time for a #introduction.
First, I want to say how great it is to be part of the BSD.cafe community. I’m thrilled that this instance exists and is thriving.
I’m Blake, a Systems Administrator with a knack for #networks and #DevOps. Currently, I work in the insurance sector, focusing on #technology solutions for agricultural businesses. I have extensive experience with #Linux, #AWS, #Azure, and a variety of network solutions, from Fortigate (#FortiOS) to Netgate (#pfSense). I consider myself a big-picture solver, dedicated to enhancing infrastructure efficiency and security.
I’ve been using Linux daily since the late 2000s, when our family’s Windows XP machine gave out and I got my hands on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Since then, I’ve experimented with everything from Arch Linux to Void Linux. Recently, I’ve started exploring #FreeBSD and #OpenBSD, and I’m truly enjoying the fresh experience they offer.
When I’m not immersed in technology, you’ll find me participating in ultra-endurance #cycling events or tinkering with my #homelab. I’m committed to continuous learning and love sharing insights on cutting-edge network and server technologies. I also enjoy exploring how technology intersects with everyday life.
One of these days, I plan to create a proper blog site to share my thoughts and experiences.
I look forward to connecting with fellow tech enthusiasts and homelabbers!
I've never done an #introduction post because I'm too shy and introverted, but here goes me trying to be more open. I might delete later if I get too freaked out.
I'm Dan a 40ish white millennial living in unceded Kaurna Yerta.
I am interested in #linux and open source, my day job is a #sysadmin and #python Dev, because small companies can't afford one of each.
When not working or taking my 8 year old to the many dance classes and SANFL junior matches I like to add to my vegetable #garden and play as many #videogames as I can get running on Linux. I also taught myself #knitting but my ADHD probably means I will have a lot of unfinished bits I'm working on.
My wife and I were #anime weebs before we knew weeb was a term, having watched Akira and Fist of the North Star on VHS as our second date in 1998. We also love visiting Japan and eating all of the Asian food.
I sometimes make it to conventions, though I won't make #pyconau this year I hope to get to #everythingopen next year. If you see me come and say hello because I will probably be too shy to say hi to you.
Obviously due to the distributed nature of the Fediverse it's never going to be possible to tell how many UK users have joined Mastodon/Firefish/Fedi in the last week or so.
But I'd be curious to know if anecdotally anyone thinks there have been an uptick in new UK accounts here.
