  • I’m a big fan of this guy’s work in Destiny. Really excited to see what he does with Subnautica. From everything he described, I think it sounds like he has the right idea on how to handle a game like this. Focusing on that isolation is part of what made Subnautica so good. I also like how he wants to nudge the player to things that may help, but ultimately leaves a lot of things for the player to discover on their own. One of the things that hurt BZ was dragging the player around to different story beacons. I think that was one of the biggest reasons Subnautica worked so well. I didn’t need to be told to go to the Aurora, I was just drawn to it.

For what it’s worth, the devs who worked on this remake talked about their personal experiences with the original game in the 20 min reveal on youtube. Probably good to mention this is not made by Bethesda. Some of them mentioned putting over 10000 hours in the original game. They also talked about what a privilege it was to work on the game. To me, it sounds like they had plenty of passion for it. But there’s nothing wrong with you holding out for Skyblivion if you’d rather play that. Respect for you at least having a measured take on it.

  • People are complaining because Bethesda didn’t launch the game with official mod support. Meaning it doesn’t have a “mods” option on the main menu. Bethesda hasn’t said they have a problem with mods or will go after anyone that uses them. But everyone is acting like this means Bethesda suddenly hates mods. Skyrim launched without official mod support too, but somehow it managed to be a successful game on top of having a massive modding community. People just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

I think it probably would have been the biggest success of the 3 games. But you’re also probably right that it likely would have been the end of the series. Bethesda making them into 1st person open world games was probably the best thing that ever happened to the series. At least in terms of achieveing widespread success.

I really wish we had gotten a full release of Dinosaur Planet. Starfox Adventures is still pretty good, but it definitely lost a lot of unique ideas with the change. Not to mention, it probably affected Nintendo’s perception of Starfox as a whole. Mucked up a cool game and damaged a franchise with that one. And I say this as a fan of Adventures.

Star Wars 1313 is a big one for me. Same with Battlefront 3, both would have been amazing. RIP og Lucasarts, you were a real one.

Also, Retro Studios has had a few concepts that sounded awesome. They were planning a few Zelda spinoffs I would have really liked to see. Heroes of Hyrule and the Sheik project looked cool as hell.

  • Well that’s pretty much how NSO started. It sucked at first with a tiny lineup of NES titles. Now there are tons of games and they’re still adding. I think it makes sense that they would hype up people with additional games added over time. I’m fine with that if I’m still paying $20/ year for NSO. I get enough value out of that as is, and more games at the same price is added value. But I absolutely agree that they should have started with more than 3 games.

Admittedly though, when I first commented on this, I hadn’t seen the new prices on Switch 2 yet. Now, I’m just as pissed as anyone else. I won’t be buying the system at all unless they drop their prices. And if they don’t, then I guess I will just stick to playing elsewhere.
